American Mah Jongg Black Belt Tournaments Announcement

Prepare to showcase your mastery in the upcoming American Mah Jongg Black Belt Tournaments!

American Mah Jongg Black Belt Tournament Details:

  • Date: December 31st
  • Time: 9 AM Pacific Time (12 PM Eastern Time)
  • Participants: Open to all black belt American Mah Jongg players
  • Entry Fee: 500 coins
  • Rounds: 4 per tournament

Second American Mah Jongg Black Belt Tournament Details:

  • Date: January 13th (Saturday)
  • Time: 9 AM Pacific Time (12 PM Eastern Time)
  • Participants: Open to both brown and black belt American Mah Jongg players
  • Special for Brown Belts: Brown belt players are not eligible for prizes. The sole benefit for a brown belt winner is promotion to black belt status if they win the entire tournament.
  • Entry Fee: 500 coins
  • Rounds: 4 per tournament

Special VIP Gift:

To celebrate the holiday season and the spirit of giving, the first three winners of American Mah Jongg Black Belt tournament will receive a Special VIP Gift. This gift is a token of achievement that is meant to be shared with someone else. Winners are invited to award this One-Year VIP Membership to any other player's account, highlighting that the VIP Membership cannot be redeemed for their own account.

Tournament Table Details:

  • Table Name: American Mah Jongg Black Belt
  • Game Timer: 55 minutes

Prize Distribution:

The prize pool will consist of the gold coins collected from entry fees.

  • First Prize: 50% of collected coins
  • Second Prize: 35% of collected coins
  • Third Prize: 15% of collected coins

Scoring and Ranking:

Points will be awarded based on placements in each tournament, with cumulative points determining overall rankings. Additionally, half of the points earned by each player in the first tournament will be carried over to the second tournament, giving players a running start as they continue to compete for the top positions.

Tie-Breaking Rules:

If there's a tie in cumulative points, the player’s performance in the second tournament will be decisive.

Fair Play and Disqualification:

Integrity and fair play are paramount. Unsportsmanlike behavior will lead to disqualification.

MCR Black Belt Mahjong Tournaments Announcement

Get ready for the ultimate test of skill in our All Black Belt and Combined Black Belt Tournaments!

Organized by Ildikó Hargitai (player name: tyltyl) and Mahjong Time


All Black Belt Tournament Details:

  • Date: December 26th
  • Start Time: 8 AM Pacific Time / 5 PM Budapest Time
  • Format: 4 laps, each lasting an hour
  • Participants: Exclusively for black belt MCR players
  • Entry Fee: 500 coins

Combined Black Belt Tournament Details:

  • Date: January 13th
  • Start Time: 8 AM Pacific Time / 5 PM Budapest Time
  • Format: Following the All Black Belt tournament
  • Participants: Open to both brown and black belt players
  • Special for Brown Belts: The first-place brown belt player will be promoted to black belt status. No other prizes for brown belt participants.
  • Entry Fee: 500 coins

Additional Gifts from Ildiko/tyltyl:

In addition to the monetary prizes, Ildiko/tyltyl is generously offering extra gifts for the winners, particularly for certain game achievements: All Green, Pure Terminal Chows, All Five, and Reversible tiles These exclusive rewards include bracelets and rings with dragon motifs, adding an extra layer of excitement and recognition to the tournament. Ildiko/tyltyl's intention is to promote specific Mahjong hands like all five or reversible tiles with these special gifts, providing an incentive for players to explore and master these challenging hands.

Black Belt Scoring Continuity:

Black belt players will carry over half of their scores from the All Black Belt Tournament to the Combined Black Belt Tournament.

  • Second Prize: 35% of collected coins

If there's a tie in cumulative points, the player’s performance in the second tournament will be decisive. If a tie persists, the player with the most individual game wins across both tournaments will be ranked higher.

Repeated absences, disconnections, or unsportsmanlike behavior may lead to disqualification. Mahjong Time enforces rules for integrity and fairness.

We are excited to host the American Mah Jongg Marathon for another year, following the success of our past marathons since 2016. The marathon is a one-year-long competition divided into five seasons and is played using the American Mah Jongg rules.

Every year, we have the honor of welcoming over 1,100 players from 40 countries to participate in this thrilling event. We hope to continue this tradition and welcome even more players to join us in 2023.

 In the unlikely event that two or more players tie in both scores and games played, the player who has a higher Mahjong Time rating is ranked higher.

Game Disqualification

 A table in which one or more players is absent for 50 or more moves is automatically disqualified and the entry fees are returned to the remaining players.

Player Disqualification

If you no longer wish to wait in a Marathon Table, or want to accept an invitation to a different game - leave your current table first before accepting any invitation.

a. Temporary Suspension
The participants of the tournament receive up to two temporary 72-hour  suspensions from entering the Marathon games when the marathon players are absent from their tables for more than 50 moves during the first two rounds of the tournament match.

b. Permanent Disqualification
The participants of the competition are permanently excluded from entering the Marathon games for the whole season due to their absence in the marathon for the third time.

Please note that Tournament Organizers reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to disqualify and ban players from any future tournament or event organized by Mahjong Time.
